Meadow Pipit - Ornithology
The local area has a variety of bird species which reflects the diversity of habitats present, from marine islands to mountains over 2,000 feet. Some species are widespread while others are restricted to certain habitats, but of course the presence of species varies monthly and annually and therefore any observations, even on common species, are of interest to the management of the Reserve.

In general terms it is possible to forecast which species are likely to be found in specific habitats and the following notes are given as a guide primarily for the summer months.

Loch
Black throated Diver, Red throated Diver, Mallard, Widgeon, Common Sandpiper, Common Gull, Reed Bunting, Heron.

Burns
Red-breasted Merganser, Heron, Dipper, Grey and Pied Wagtail, Reed Bunting.

Moorland
Meadow Pipit, Red Grouse, Ring Ouzel, Wheateater, Skylark, Common Snipe, Whinchat, Stonechat, Golden Plover, Greenshank, Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine Buzzard & Falcon.

Woodland
Tree Pipit, Wren, Robin, Willow Warbler, Goldcrest, Wood Warbler Spotted Flycatcher, Redstart, Blackbird, Redwing, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Timice, Chaffinch, Redpoll, Bullfinch, Black Grouse, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Long-eared Owl, Sparrow Hawk, Buzzard.

Marine
Auks, Gannet, Eider Duck, Arctic Tern, Oyster Catcher, Heron, Gull, Great Skua, Greylag Goose, Rock Pipit, Ducks, Shag, Cormorant, Puffin.

Mountain
Ptartmigan, Red Grouse, Golden Plover, Ring Ouzel, Meadow Pipit.
